Grand Prairie Armed Forces Reserve Complex

Overview

  • Category: Educational/Government
  • Organization Location: Grand Prairie, Texas
  • Activity: Rainwater replaces drinking water for vehicle washing in a nationwide pilot.

Background

Using geospatial data and water security data, the Grand Prairie complex was determined to be one of the two best locations in Army Reserve complexes across the nation for a pilot site to test the effectiveness and maintenance of utilizing rainwater harvesting for vehicle washing. This pilot has been extremely successful as demonstrated in potable water demand reductions and the glowing reviews of the operations staff who utilize the systems. All vehicle wash demand is now being met by rainfall collected. A savings of 34,250 gallons of potable water has been achieved since system installation in April 2017. The Army Reserve site has experienced an overall reduction in potable water consumption, with the rainwater harvesting system making a significant contribution.
