Flood Science
In 2019, TWDB released the first ever statewide assessment of flood risk. This assessment includes extensive knowledge and information about the unique characteristics of flooding in Texas and the three pillars of flood risk management: planning, mapping, and funding. To support flood planning and mapping activities, during the 86th Legislature, Senate Bill 500 allocated funds from the floodplain management account in the Texas Infrastructure Resiliency Fund to the TWDB. These funds support updating state flood risk maps with current data and technology standards, and aid in developing the State Flood Plan.
In summary, Flood Science efforts at TWDB support statewide flood initiatives including developing improved modeling and mapping, performing research to advance scientific applications, and conducting flood analytics.
