Groundwater Data and Well Reports

Find groundwater monitoring data, submitted well and plugging reports, structured datasets, complete database downloads, interactive maps, and related resources.

Before You Use These Data

The Groundwater Database (GWDB) supports groundwater monitoring and water planning activities and does not represent a complete inventory of all wells or groundwater information in Texas.

The Submitted Drillers Report (SDR) Database contains reports submitted through the Texas Well Report Submission and Retrieval System. Reports submitted by mail before the SDR system are not included. Well locations in the SDR database are not verified by State staff and may be inaccurate.

Users are responsible for evaluating the accuracy, completeness, currency, and suitability of the data for their intended use.

Choose how you want to access groundwater data

The options below are organized by task so users do not have to know which TWDB system contains the information.

Find a report

Groundwater reports have moved to SARA. Use the Report Finder when you need a report filtered by well, county, aquifer, or another available criterion.

  • Formatted report output
  • Search by report name, ID, description, or keyword
  • Best for targeted lookups

Use the report finder

Download a structured dataset

Use the Well Data or Water Level Data download when you want a standardized dataset for analysis, GIS, or a repeatable workflow.

  • Clear subject-focused files
  • Easier than joining raw database tables
  • Designed for analysts and data users

View structured datasets

Download a complete database

Use the bulk downloads when you need the complete GWDB or Submitted Drillers Report database.

  • GWDB and SDR database downloads
  • Statewide shapefiles
  • Best for advanced bulk workflows

GWDB structured dataset downloads

These subject-focused Groundwater Database downloads provide a simpler starting point for common analysis than the complete raw database files.

Well Data

Download structured information about wells in the Groundwater Database.

Water Level Data

Download structured groundwater-level measurements for analysis and QA/QC workflows.
