Lake Mexia (Brazos River Basin)
Lake Mexia and Bistone Dam are located about seven miles southwest of Mexia in Limestone County, on the Navasota River, a tributary of the Brazos River. The Lake is owned and operated by the Bistone Municipal Water Supply District for municipal and industrial water supply and recreational purposes. Construction of the Bistone Dam began in July 26, 1960 and was completed in June 5, 1961. Deliberate impoundment of water began on the same date as completion. The dam is an earthfill embankment, 1,645 feet long, with a concrete spillway near its left end. Lake Mexia has a normal capacity of 4,687 acre-feet and encompasses a surface area of 1,009 acres at the conservation pool elevation of 448.3 feet above mean sea level. The drainage area above the dam is approximately 198 square miles.
