Background
Rainwater harvesting is the sole source of potable water for Dennis and Lorna Duke since their property falls outside of utility service boundaries and their property is in a dry area between the Trinity and Carrizo-Wilcox aquifers. This means they have never been able to drill a productive well. The rainwater is stored in an underground concrete tank, with the top of the tank serving as the Duke’s back porch. Dennis and Lorna also make use of water from the first-flush diverter, rather than draining it, by storing it in separate drums and using it for garden irrigation.
