AUSTIN - (June 21, 2012) - The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution a loan in the amount of $230,530,000 to the San Jacinto River Authority (Montgomery County) from the Texas Water Development Fund to finance a water supply project.

The San Jacinto River Authority intends to use the funds to continue the development and construction of an alternative water supply program for Montgomery County. Due to the declining aquifer levels and insufficient recharge rates within it, the aquifer cannot sustain continued use as the sole source of water supply within the county.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional planning and preparing the state water plan for the development of the state’s water resources. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects.
