AUSTIN - (December 15, 2011) - The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution a $665,000 loan from the Rural Water Assistance Fund to the Birome Water Supply Corporation (Hill, Limestone and McLennan Counties) to finance water system improvements.

The Birome Water Supply Corporation’s (Corporation) current water supply is from two deep water wells. Water from these wells has been found to be in non-compliance with maximum contaminant levels for arsenic as established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The Corporation will use these funds to construct a transmission line to blend treated surface water with the Corporation’s well water to reduce arsenic levels.

The Corporation is located in Hill, Limestone and McLennan Counties, surrounding the communities of Mount Calm, Penelope and Birome. It serves an estimated 501 water connections.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional planning and preparing the state water plan for the development of the state’s water resources. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects.
