AUSTIN - (September 22, 2011) - The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution a $2,725,000 loan from the Texas Water Development Fund to the Montgomery County Municipal Utility District No. 9 (Montgomery County) to finance water system improvements.

The Montgomery County Municipal Utility District No. 9 (MUD 9) will use the funds to plan and design a water treatment facility to be used in conjunction with the Montgomery County Municipal Utility District No. 8 (MUD 8). MUD 9 and MUD 8 provide water and wastewater service to the Walden peninsula on the western side of Lake Conroe. The proposed facility will house two water treatment processes in one building to treat water from two sources: a one-million-gallon-per-day micro-filtration process to treat surface water from Lake Conroe and a one-million-gallon-per-day nano-filtration or reverse-osmosis process to treat brackish groundwater from the Catahoula formation beneath the peninsula.

MUD 9 was created by the 62nd Texas Legislature in 1971. It serves 1,436 water connections and 1,407 sewer connections.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional planning and preparing the state water plan for the development of the state’s water resources. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects.
