AUSTIN - (August 18, 2011) - The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution a $3,720,000 loan from the Texas Water Development Fund to the City of Hawkins (Wood County) to finance wastewater system improvements.

The City of Hawkins’ (City) wastewater treatment plant is experiencing flows at or near the permitted design capacity of the facility on a regular basis. The high flows experienced at the plant are creating maintenance and operational issues and have exposed the need for additional sludge disposal. The project currently includes an expansion of the wastewater treatment facilities to increase the capacity of the facility from 0.25 million gallons-per-day to 0.5 million gallons-per-day.

The City is located in Wood County and serves a population of 1,547, including 648 water and 560 wastewater connections.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional planning and preparing the state water plan for the development of the state’s water resources. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects.
