AUSTIN - (May 4, 2011) - The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution a $5,420,000 loan from the Texas Water Development Fund to the Montgomery County Utility District No. 3 (Montgomery County) to finance wastewater system improvements.

The Montgomery County Utility District No. 3 (District) proposes to use these funds to replace its aging 0.95 million-gallon-per-day wastewater treatment facility. A new plant is necessary to meet more stringent effluent requirements, including phosphorus removal, for discharge to Lake Conroe. The facility also serves Montgomery County Utility District No. 4, which will cover costs for half of the project.

The District is located approximately 40 miles north of the City of Houston, within the extraterritorial jurisdiction of the City of Conroe. The District serves an estimated population of 3,770 with approximately 1,200 water and wastewater connections.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional planning and preparing the state water plan for the development of the state’s water resources. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects.
