AUSTIN - (May 4, 2011) - The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution a $92,570 grant from the Economically Distressed Areas Program Research and Planning Fund to the City of Menard (Menard County) to finance planning costs for a water system improvements project.

The City of Menard (City) proposes to use these funds to plan a water supply project that will enable the City to come into compliance with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality’s requirements for surface water treatment. This planning phase will evaluate the most cost-effective alternatives to serve the project area.

The City is located in Menard County, approximately 66 miles southeast of San Angelo. The City serves an estimated 795 water connections and 770 sewer connections.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional planning and preparing the state water plan for the development of the state’s water resources. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects.
