Texas Water Development Board approves $375,000 IN financial assistance to the Bruni Rural Water Supply Corporation to finance water system improvements

AUSTIN - (May 4, 2011) - The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution financial assistance in the amount of $375,000, consisting of a $112,000 loan and $263,000 loan forgiveness from the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund - Disadvantaged Community Program to the Bruni Rural Water Supply Corporation (Webb County) to finance water system improvements.
The Bruni Rural Water Supply Corporation (Corporation) proposes to use these funds to install a media absorption system to remove arsenic from its public water system. The project will also include the installation of a metal building to house the treatment unit, a pre-treatment unit to reduce the pH of the raw water, controls, monitoring, and backwash disposal to the wastewater system.
The Corporation is located on State Highway 359, approximately 50 miles southeast of Laredo in Webb County. It serves 164 water connections and 156 wastewater connections.
The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional planning and preparing the state water plan for the development of the state’s water resources. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects.
