New Braunfels Aquifer Storage and Recovery Demonstration Project
Project Summary:
The Edwards Aquifer Authority, in partnership with New Braunfels Utilities, plans to drill one wireline core hole and one monitor well into the brackish zone of the Edwards Aquifer. Samples and geophysical logs from the core hole will be analyzed for aquifer storage and recovery compatibility. Short duration pump testing of the monitor well will be used to evaluate formation hydraulic properties.

- Geochemical, water quality, lithologic, and hydraulic performance data collected from these tests will provide New Braunfels Utilities the information needed to permit an aquifer storage and recovery well from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and assist in the development of a full-scale aquifer storage and recovery system. This is the first project to evaluate the brackish portion of the Edwards Aquifer as a potential storage location. Data collected and lessons learned will be of benefit to other water purveyors considering aquifer storage and recovery investigations in the brackish portion of the Edwards Aquifer.
