Texas Water Development Board approves $30,202,322 in financial assistance to the City of McAllen (Hidalgo County) to finance wastewater system improvements

AUSTIN - (January 23, 2014) - The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution financial assistance in the amount of $30,202,322 to the City of McAllen (Hidalgo County) consisting of a $30,000,000 loan and $202,322 in loan forgiveness from the Clean Water State Revolving Fund to finance wastewater system improvements.

The City of McAllen intends to use the funds to finance construction costs related to upgrading an aging wastewater treatment plant. The project aims to reduce energy consumption while improving the treatment process. The city will benefit through an upgrade to the plant, improved efficiency, and modified treatment process.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional planning and preparing the state water plan for the development of the state’s water resources. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects.
