Lake Gilmer (Cypress River Basin)

Lake Gilmer is located about four miles west of downtown Gilmer, along state highway 852, in Upshur County on Kelsey Creek, a tributary of the Big Cypress River.  This reservoir is owned and operated by the City of Gilmer.  Completed in 1999, the dam is an earth-rolling embankment with a total length of about 2,550 feet along its top at the elevation of 328.5 feet above mean sea level. Impounded in 2001, the lake would store 12,720 acre-feet of water encompassing a surface area of about 895 acres at the elevation of top of conservation pool, 315 feet above mean sea level. The dam controls a catchment area of about 36 square miles.
