AUSTIN – (September 22, 2016) – The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution financial assistance in the amount of $5,405,000 from the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund to the City of Edinburg (Hidalgo County). The City will use the assistance to finance planning, design, and construction costs associated with water system improvements.

The City could save approximately $680,000 over the life of the loan by using the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund.

With the assistance approved today, the City will be able to expand its existing West Water Treatment Plant from 8 million gallons per day to 16 million gallons per day. The City will also be able to upgrade the West Water Treatment Plant’s reservoir system and meet the new raw water requirements of the plant’s expanded treatment capacity.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional planning and preparing the state water plan for the development of the state’s water resources. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects.
