Texas Water Development Board approves additional $10,000,000 in financial assistance to the City of McAllen (Hidalgo County) for wastewater treatment plant upgrades

AUSTIN - (September 4, 2014) - The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) approved amending a financial assistance commitment by authorizing a $10,000,000 increase from the Clean Water State Revolving Fund to the City of McAllen (Hidalgo County). The amended resolution brings the total amount of financial assistance to $40,202,322, consisting of a $40,000,000 loan and $202,322 in loan forgiveness.
McAllen could save approximately $11,723,135 over the life of the loan by using the Clean Water State Revolving Fund.
The assistance will allow the City to fund construction costs associated with upgrading its wastewater treatment plant. The City plans to upgrade the treatment processes and also include energy-efficient features.
The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional planning and preparing the state water plan for the development of the state’s water resources. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects.
