AUSTIN – (August 7, 2014) –  The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution financial assistance in the amount of $4,976,413, consisting of a $3,885,000 loan and $1,091,413 in loan forgiveness from the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund to the Harris County Water Control and Improvement District No. 36 (Harris County). The assistance will allow the District to finance water facility and line improvements.

The District could save approximately $2,100,000 over the life of the loan by using the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund.

The District is experiencing problems with water loss and outdated equipment due to aging water treatment and distribution systems. The assistance approved by TWDB will finance the design and construction costs for efficiency improvements and equipment rehabilitation at four water treatment plant sites. In addition, the assistance will allow for the replacement of distribution lines and will help the District reduce water loss.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional planning and preparing the state water plan for the development of the state’s water resources. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects.
