Texas Water Development Board approves a $2,000,000 loan to the City of San Juan to finance water system improvements

AUSTIN - (January 31, 2013) - The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution the amount of $2,000,000 to the City of San Juan (Hidalgo County) consisting of a loan in the amount of $1,400,000 and $600,000 in loan forgiveness from the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund to finance water system improvements.

The City of San Juan intends to use the funds to install approximately 16,000 linear feet of line to transfer treated water from SWTP #2 in the northern part of the city to the ground storage tank at SWTP #1 to address its water treatment capacity issue.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional planning and preparing the state water plan for the development of the state’s water resources. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects.
