Locating, Acquiring, and Digitizing Geophysical Well Logs

Project Summary:

The study will involve identifying candidate well logs, acquiring digital images of logs, and entering requested attribute data into a TWDB database to create reasonable statewide coverage from which TWDB can further assess the distribution, quantity, and quality of brackish groundwater resources across Texas.

TWDB Contract Manager:
Sanjeev Kalaswad
Funding Recipient:
Bureau of Economic Geology - University of Texas at Austin, Austin, TX
Project Administrator:
Jeffrey G. Paine, BEG
Project Start Date:
November 18, 2010
Project Completion Date:
December 31, 2011
Total Project Cost:
$300,000
TWDB Share of Project Cost:
$300,000
Benefits:
Potential users of the logs and the database include TWDB staff interested in further characterizing brackish groundwater resources in Texas and university researchers and consultants who may be involved in future brackish-water characterization projects in Texas. The assembled data will also help identify data gaps that could be filled with future efforts in geophysical prospecting and searches for other types of supplemental information.
